Bicycle Ride
The city of Oldenburg is a worthwhile destination for cyclists. First choice cultural destinations are the Oldenburg Castle, the Museum for Nature and Man, the picture galleries in the Prinzenpalais and Augusteum as well as the Horst Janssen Museum.

The only 17 kilometer long path from Bad Zwischenahn to the Oldenburg city center is characterized by the railway embankment, on the right side of which the cycle path mostly runs. The romantically situated Woldsee, which is passed halfway through, offers an opportunity to cool off in summer temperatures. The way back is through the feudal settlements of Petersfehn.

Highlights RIGHT AND LEFT OF THE ROUTE

  • The Woldsee was created in the 1970s when sand was needed to build the Autobahn 28. In some places, the approximately 14-hectare lake is 13 meters deep, compared to the Zwischenahner Meer, which is only 5.5 meters deep.
  • The Oldenburg Castle is the seat of the State Museum for Art and Cultural History Oldenburg and the city's landmark. As the former residence of the Grand Dukes of Oldenburg, it has a long history. The medieval castle complex was expanded into a representative residence in the Renaissance style.
  • The Landesmuseum Natur und Mensch Oldenburg in Oldenburg is a nationally important collection museum with the departments of archeology, natural history and ethnology. The focus is on the geology and moor archeology of north-west Germany. The bog body from the Kayhauser Moor is also exhibited here (see moor route).
  • The Bad Zwischenahn open-air museum was built in 1909 and 1910 from two former half-timbered houses. The Association for Homeland Care shows how people lived here 300 years ago. The 17 houses and outbuildings fit harmoniously into the spa park, the centerpiece is the farmhouse with an open fireplace. (Listening station at the old farmhouse).
