The walkaround begins at the monument square in front of St. Ulrich's Church, which was first mentioned in a document in 1059 and whose visit (including the pulpit by Ludwig Münstermann) is highly worthwhile. You keep to the left of the church on the path leading to the tournament grounds. Here, keep left again and circle half of the Ellernteich past the outdoor pool, the historic water mill, and the adjacent historic mill yard before turning left towards the Wolfsschlucht. Following the path, turn left towards Eichenbruch until you reach the Loyer Kirchweg, where you turn right. It goes along the wildlife rescue center and over the chestnut avenue to the Rundteichweg. Over the Rundteich bridge, you head towards the castle and then further towards the tournament grounds, along the artwork "Rasteder Zugpferde" by Hermine Meyer and Erwin Rodenberg, and then back to the starting point at St. Ulrich's Church. Excursion: Those who do not want to miss the impressive Erbprinzenpalais, whose current architectural form dates from 1882 and is located opposite the castle on the other side of the street, take the path in front of the castle through the two gatehouses across the traffic-light-controlled Oldenburger Straße. Through the entrance on the left into the palace garden, which is laid out as an arboretum and houses trees from all over the world, one reaches the Erbprinzenpalais, which offers a historic backdrop for changing art exhibitions, events, and lectures.
