Highlights:

  • The turf hut of Grandma Puls gives an impression of the primitive conditions under which the moor settlers lived back then.
  • Significant smuggling once took place on the secret path between Vreschen-Bokel and Deternerlehe. The smuggling path is the connection between Ammerland and East Frisia, where mainly everyday items like tea and coffee were smuggled.
  • The "Old Church Path" between Nordloh and Apen is an approximately 2 km long path that was formerly the only connection from Nordloh and Tange to the Apen church.
  • The Godensholt castle was an old farmhouse surrounded by a moat, which served as a fortress in military conflicts.
  • The Tange village school experienced a lot over about 110 years. Today, the building serves as the village house Tange and as accommodation for the volunteer fire brigade.
  • Field ash belonged to the oldest agricultural areas of the North German geest. The Bokeler Esch has an impressive size of around 60 hectares. In the middle, it measures a height of 5 meters above sea level.
  • The Aper Tief was once only navigable up to Hengstforde. For this reason, a harbor was built where all goods had to be transshipped to be transported inland.
  • During the 19th century, industrialization slowly increased. The founding of the Oldenburg Ironworks Company in Augustfehn documented this development.
