The Jadeweg leads you from Wilhelmshaven to the Jade Bight, into the colorful Ammerland. There, you almost circle the Zwischenahner Meer and hike all the way to Oldenburg.

The Jadeweg is named after the small river Jade, which collects surface water between the landscape forms of marsh and geest and connects the Jade Bight with the North Sea.

Your hike begins at the Jade Bight, the bay of the North Sea and part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. Diverse landscapes await you on the hike through geest and marsh, crossing East Frisian settlements. The hike takes you through the Neuenburger Urwald, which has been a nature reserve for 100 years and is lined with 800-year-old trees. A stop you shouldn't miss is the Zwischenahner Meer. In the heart of the Ammerland, colorful rhododendrons invite you to linger.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

  1. At the Wadden Sea Visitor Center, everything revolves around the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea, which is one of the last original natural landscapes in Central Europe. There are various exhibitions where you can experience more of this fascinating landscape.
  2. Characteristic of the Neuenburger Urwald are the oaks that are up to 800 years old. Since the 17th century, the forest has hardly been touched by human hands. A hunting lodge offers a great opportunity to rest or shelter during “bad weather”.
  3. Around 1500, Steinhausen was a small village whose inhabitants earned their livelihood through fishing and coastal shipping. When you come up the old village street paved with bricks, you will encounter the shipping monument “Spritzenhaus” in Bockhorn, which with its characteristic ship shape is meant to recall the times gone by.
  4. On the 250 ha area of the Jührden monastery farm, there is an 18-hole Swin-Golf course and a Melkhus. The farm invites you to linger with a cool milkshake.
  5. The Zwischenahner Meer, also known as the “Pearl of the Ammerland”, nestled in a beautiful natural landscape, is the third largest inland lake in Lower Saxony and a popular destination for near and far visitors.
  6. In the Park der Gärten in Bad Zwischenahn, 90 show gardens, plant collections as well as spring and summer flowers in the flower band offer a fascinating insight into garden art and plenty of inspiration.
